He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

“Yah! Wonwoo, it’s your turn to record now.”
Wonwoo stirred, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. A few minutes of sleep felt like hours between schedules these days. Comebacks were great but incredibly exhausting. From the music video filming, photo shoots, dance and vocal rehearsals, getting any amount of sleep, no matter how small, was like a godsend. He looked over at Mingyu who was still sound asleep and snoring quietly to himself. Wonwoo smiled to himself, clearly endeared by the younger man before trying to carefully maneuver himself off the mattress without disturbing him.
“Ah...Wonwoo? Where are you going?”
“Oh. Coups hyung said it’s my turn to go record with Jihoon now and then I think we’re done for the night.” Mingyu hummed in response before closing his eyes again. It took all of Wonwoo’s strength not to lean back down to kiss him but they weren’t like that. They couldn’t be like that, not right now. Wonwoo pulled the blankets over Mingyu and glanced at him one last time before closing the door to head out.

He didn’t know how or when it happened but somehow he developed feelings for one Kim Mingyu. Wonwoo was entranced by all of Mingyu’s quirks and habits. Like the little dimples that formed on his cheeks whenever he smiled; the way his soft brown hair bounced whenever he danced, and even the way his eyebrows knitted together in concentration whenever he was focused on cooking. It was these small things that somehow energized Wonwoo during their long rehearsal sessions and he was in the simplest terms: completely and utterly enamoured.
Now he could do one of three things about it: 1) ignore it and busy himself with other things, 2) do nothing and just deal with the longing feelings forever or 3) admit his feelings and risk a best friendship and be doomed to eternal awkwardness.
Wonwoo let out a sigh. They had trained for too long and gone through too much together to risk it for an admission of feelings, but he felt like his heart was going to explode out of his chest whenever Mingyu flashed his bright, canine laden smile towards him. Wonwoo slumped down against the practice room wall, put his head into his hands and closed his eyes.
Damn you Kim Mingyu. Damn you and your smile and your caring nature. Damn you and your-
“Hey hyung? Are you okay? Do you want my water?” Wonwoo looked up to see a plastic water bottle hovering above his head, in the hands of the man he was just silently cursing out.
“Ah, thank you Mingyu.” Wonwoo said quickly, taking the bottle and gulping down the water as if his life depended on it.
Wonwoo wordlessly drank, trying to decide what to say once the water was gone. That moment came far too soon and Wonwoo was left with an empty bottle and an expectant Mingyu looking down on him, as if he was waiting for an answer to an unspoken question.
“T-thanks again for the water Gyu. It was just what I needed.” Mingyu nodded approvingly. “Of course hyung. Is there...anything else you needed? Or wanted to say?”
This was it. Mingyu was basically spoon feeding him the opportunity to say something. To take a chance. I like you. I want to try going out with you. I want to see where this goes.
Wonwoo shook his head slowly. “No, I’m okay now. Thank you though. I guess we’re all done with practice for today so, what are you going to do now?”
“Oh, I uh, have a date, sorta thing.”
Wonwoo looked up, trying to make sure his face remained stoic and unreadable. “Oh...I see. That’s...cool.”
Mingyu grinned sheepishly, “yeah I was kind of surprised myself but. You know. Big risks get the big rewards I guess right?”
Wonwoo nodded, not trusting his voice not to crack. “Well. Have fun.” He finally said, hoping the waiver in his voice was hidden. Mingyu flashed another winning smile at him again. “Thanks hyung. I’ll have to tell you about it later!”
“Gyu-ah, hurry up! We shouldn’t be late.” Seokmin whined from the doorway.
“Oh, Seokmin is going with you too?”
Mingyu shook his head, a slight blush forming on his tanned cheeks. “Actually, I’m going on the date with Seokmin.”
Wonwoo blinked before all the pieces started to fall into place. “Oh I see. Ah well. You should go then. We can talk later.” Mingyu pursed his lips in hesitation. “Are you really sure I can-“
“Mingyu. Just go. I-I’ll be the last one to clean up with Seungcheol hyung. Don’t worry about me.”
“Okay...if you’re sure. I owe you one next time though.” Mingyu gave a quick nod before grabbing his bag and turning away from Wonwoo, walking towards the door where Seokmin was waiting. He didn’t want to look back at the clearly disappointed man behind him. He didn’t want to see the results of his actions; a broken hearted best friend. He closed his eyes and let out a deep breath.
“I thought my love would last forever: I was wrong.”
